Hot tub Link Building Basics on SES

by Dennis Goedegebuure on August 21, 2007

At the end of the session there were some questions around the keyword link building for Hot tub. This was quite amusing. What is interesting about Hot tub in SEO, read on until the end of the post.

First session I’m attending on the SES, Search Engine Strategies, in San Jose. This first one is really disappointing. Basics of Link building ok, but more basic as this it won’t get.

The two speakers are not really prepared, and the original moderator was called to do an interview for the Search Engine Watch Website. So what about the paying customers here? What is more important, your conference or your bloody interview?

Isn’t link building so 2006? One tip the two gave on stage, is to set up an affiliate program to get back links.

I can’t wait until we go for questions, so we get into the interesting stuff.

One tip, make sure that your link building strategy is based on a build in a natural historical way. Different anchor texts, different landing pages, and slowly build over time.

Tell me 10 reasons why you want to visit your own site coming from a search engine.

That’s a good tip!

CMO’s are not taking enough time to understand and to dig into the whole SEO world.

Tip for big corporations:

Don’t outsource/ Offshore your keyword discovery or link building to lower salary countries. You give away the control over your most important asset in SEO.

The quality of the link is more important than the quantity.

It is amazing the basic knowledge level of the audience. All big industries outside Internet are jumping now on SEO and Internet Marketing in general. Just somebody in the Hot tub industry stood up and asked a question how to optimize for the keyword Hot tub.

Question: Does Hot tub convert?

Other panel member: “You got a dirty mind!”

Now what is so dirty about that…?

“The two speakers are not really prepared,” this is the part that really pisses me off. What I think it is, that they have done this so many times that they don’t think they need to prepare. Well it maybe their 100th time but what about the person who spent a pant load of money not only to attend but to get there ! It’s like an actor bored with his lines, at least prepare and pretend to be enthused !

It pisses me off as well.
For me it was not that far, as I live in San Francisco and work in San Jose.
But I can imagine that all people who traveled half of the country have been quite disappointed overall with the level of the conference.
