Stupid Adwords in my eMail

by Dennis Goedegebuure on May 26, 2008

Sometimes it just funny why certain Google Adwords are triggered through words in a complete different context.

I had to update my password for Gravatar today. When I received the email I checked unconsciously what ads were displayed next to my email in Gmail.

The text from Gravatar:

You are recieving this e-mail because a request has been made to change the gravatar.com password associated with this address (XXXX@gmail.com).  If you would like to reset the password for this account simply click on the link below or paste it into the url field on your favorite browser:

If you have any questions about the system, feel free to contact us anytime at support @gravatar.com.
The Gravatar Team,
An automattic joint.

Here is a picture how it looked like in my mail box, with my email address and link unrecognizable.

There are two words that trigger unexpected Adwords next to the email:

  1. Team
  2. Joint

Here are the Ads:

For Team:

For Joint:

So Google Adwords thinks that an email from the Gravatar team, an Automattic joint, has something to do with supporting your favorite soccer team and smoking marihuana.
